The Discipline of Intentional Growth

Growth without discipline becomes noise. This month, Dr. Michelle shares the three questions she asks every leader before saying yes to a new opportunity.

Growth without discipline becomes noise.

Every season brings new invitations — a partnership, a promotion, a product line. Before I say yes to any of them, I ask three questions.

1. Does this serve the mission, or only the moment?

Opportunity feels urgent. Mission is patient. If an opportunity only makes sense this month, it rarely makes sense this decade.

2. What will this cost the people I am responsible for?

Every yes spends someone's time — often your family's. Count that cost out loud before you commit.

3. Can I sustain this at my current capacity?

If the answer requires a version of you that does not exist yet, build that version first.

Discipline is not the enemy of growth. It is the shape growth takes when it intends to last.
